The current National Strategies for both HIV and Hepatitis B share the significant goal of eliminating the negative impact of legal issues on people’s health. Health+Law will draw on the expertise of HIV- and hepatitis-related community organisations and people with lived experience of blood-borne viruses to help realise this goal.

We aim to:

Our Aims

1

Improve access to legal information, advice and referrals for people living with HIV or Hepatitis B

2

Improve health workforce capability to identify and triage patients’ legal needs and refer them to specialist legal services

3

Improve legal workforce capability to support clients’ health needs and refer them to appropriate health services

4

Increase legal workforce capacity through a national STI and BBV specialist legal network

5

Provide high-quality, jurisdiction-specific data to HIV- and hepatitis-related organisations on the legal needs of their communities

6

Implement systems to monitor progress towards eliminating legal barriers to testing and treatment

7

Dismantle barriers between health and legal sectors through collaborative work practices

8

Make recommendations that drive legal and policy reform

9

Improve quality of life and health outcomes for people living with BBVs and STIs by facilitating access to testing and treatment

“Healthcare workers and legal services both play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of people living with blood-borne viruses, and this project will help build stronger connections between the two”
